Education

Woodmere Park was full of energy as Whole Life welcomed the community for its annual Back to School Giveaway! Families walked away with over 300 backpacks stocked with school supplies, while kids enjoyed food, games, and fun activities throughout the day. It was a heartwarming reminder of what happens when a community comes together to make sure every child feels ready and excited for the new school year.

Congratulations to Carlton Skinner on the grand opening of his new barber institute on the Westbank in Jefferson Parish! The institute will provide hands-on training and career opportunities for aspiring barbers in the community, helping to build up local talent and small business right here on the Westbank.

Teatime Academy 7th Year Graduation

Congratulations to Teatime Academy on celebrating its 7th year graduation! Teatime Academy provides young girls with an enriching etiquette camp experience, helping them build confidence, poise, and life skills. Representative Rodney Lyons was proud to sponsor this year's graduates, and Teatime Academy continues to make a lasting impact in the community. We're honored to celebrate this achievement with them.

Featured Bill: Act 969 – Improving Medical Transportation for Medicaid Patients

One of Rep. Lyons' most impactful wins this session was House Bill 1028, which requires the Louisiana Department of Health to raise reimbursement rates for nonemergency medical transportation (NEMT) providers. These are the drivers and services that get Medicaid patients , including seniors, people with disabilities, and low-income families ,to critical doctor's appointments, dialysis treatments, and therapy sessions.

For years, low reimbursement rates pushed transportation providers out of the system, leaving vulnerable patients stranded without reliable rides to care. Act 969 directs an additional $2,601,174 in state general fund dollars to raise those rates, helping keep providers in business and ensuring patients across Louisiana , including here in Jefferson Parish ,can get to the healthcare they need, when they need it.

Proven results that speak for themselves.
